Tamworth 2016 - Day Two (Sydney to Tamworth)

3/1/2016

Not the best sleep, as the window was stuck open to cool the room down, but at least I got a few hours before the train trip.

I decided on having breakfast at a cafe attached to a different backpacks I stayed in ANZAC weekend last year, as I knew the food was good. The coffee and poached eggs hit the spot.

Finding the train for Tamworth at Central Station was easy as well. I took the obligatory selfie and set myself up. My seat had heaps of room, and all my luggage was easy to get to if needed. It was a full trip, with all seats filled during the trip. I was fortunate to sit beside a guy called Larry, who lives and works a 2 hour drive inland from Tamworth. We had huge conversations about travel, and showed me photos of his recent wedding to a girl in the Philippines. He also kept me in the loop about other things on the train ride like different landmarks, and stories to go with. The best advice was suggesting to get a hot meal ticket for lunch. What sensational feed. I have no doubt the my mate "Larry" reality made the 6 hour train trip from Sydney to Tamworth race by.

Well ... I've finally made it to Tamworth ... the home of country music here in Australia. What's the first thing I do ... go to the pub and have a final drink before checking into the CMAA Academy of Country Music course (where no alcohol is allowed on the site). Hmmmm cold and refreshing in this hot climate.

It's a short walk to Calrossy School, our home for the next couple of weeks prior to the Tamworth Country Music Festival. I have my own space to sprawl my gear, and rest my head, but I'm fizzing at the seams to play my guitar. Thankfully a group of guys here were in for a jam. Legends.

The meals are great. A special note must be made to the desert ... in particular ... the toffee sauce on top. Scrummy.

Like any event of this type, we all get shepparded into a large room and do the standard introductions. I am wowed by the talent and experience within this room. Some of my fellow students are already well established into the circuit here in Aussie, and the jam session at our dorms afterwards reinforces it. I feel pleased to be in all of these people's company.

As the night drags on, we all feel that it's time to rest our singing voices. What better way to do this than a few rounds of "Cards Against Humanity". Now I know a lot more about some of these talented performers. Perhaps too much.

Night all. Big day tomorrow. I'll catch you all for a further update then.
